2006 Year-End Awards Banquet

It’s the gala event of the year! The annual awards banquet is a star-studded evening where the stars are the winning riders of MIHJA. The banquet is being held on Saurday February 10, 2007 with the meeting at 4:00 pm and dinner at 5:00 pm at The Chateau in Bloomington, Illinois. The dinner choices will be Fettucine Alfredo, Chicken Breast Parmesan, and Bourbon Sirloin Steak. Everyone is invited to attend, members and non-members alike, to celebrate a successful year of doing what we love - showing horses! Members can vote, renew their membership, and enter the raffles before sitting down to dinner. The election results will be tallied in plain sight and announced after dinner. Then, the presentation of the awards!

General Membership Meeting

A general membership meeting will be held before the banquet Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 4:00 pm. This meeting is being held to accept nominees for the Board, deliver the treasurer’s report, and elect the new officers.

2007 Board of Directors

There are seats available on the Board of Directors. Those who want to run for the Board should attend the General Membership meeting at 4:00 in order to nominate themselves. Please bring a biographical paragraph explaining your background and qualifications, as well as what you feel you could contribute to MIHJA. Nominees must have been a member for at lest 90 days in order to run for office.

President - 2 year term available

Vice President - 2 year term available

Director - 2 year term available

Director - 2 year term available

currently sitting:

Treasurer - Gail Hedges (1 year remaining)

Secretary - Rachel Rock (1 year remaining)

Director - Gail Cavallo (1 year remaining)

Show Management Meeting

Stable owners and/or trainers who are planning on hosting MIHJA shows in 2007 should attend a brief meeting following the General Membership Meeting to discuss dates for the upcoming season. Please take some time before coming to the meeting to go over your calendars and look carefully for any possible conflicts you may have (annual vacations, family reunions, state fair, etc.). All members are encouraged to do the same, and we will try to plan a circuit that will work for as may people as possible. Please be sure to have this information with you because once the dates have been set, it may be very difficult to change them.

Raffle Prizes

Donations are needed as raffle prizes for the Awards Banquet. Donations may be movies, books, coupons, statues, or anything else you think our members may find interesting (new items only, please). They do not necessarily have to be horse-related. Barns hosting MIHJA shows may want to consider offering discounts or coupons for divisions, stalls, medal classes, etc. as incentives to draw barns to their shows. There will be separate drawings for each item so members will be able to choose which items they want. Tickets will be $1/each or 6 tickets for $5. A final ticket will be chose from the non-winning tickets and they will be awarded half of the money collected. It’s a fun way to raise a little money for the association that affords us this opportunity to show our horses on a circuit that offers beautiful facilities and a variety of divisions for all levels of riders.

2007 Rule Change Proposals

For the first time this decade, there are no changes proposed for the current rule book. Any member who would like to propose a change needs to do so at least 1 week before a vote can be taken so that the membership can be notified. These proposals can be made in writing and mailed to: MIHJA Secretary 119 West 16th Street, Coal Valley, IL 61240, or e-mailed to: MIHJAmail@hotmail.com, or by telephone (309) 738-7767. The Board will review any proposals and reserves the right to reject any which are not in the best interests of the Association. All valid proposals approved by January 28 will be sent to the membership in the mail and voted on at the awards banquet. Anything approved on January 29 or later will be sent to the membership after the banquet, and will be voted on by ballot through the mail. No new proposals will be accepted after March 15, 2007.

Make More MIHJA History

Last year the membership made a historic decision that will carry on with MIHJA forever - the Association’s colors were chosen. Thanks to that group our official colors are navy blue with silver. We still have a logo that is not as stylish as it could be. A perfect chance to let all the creative MIHJA members put their talents to work to create a symbol we can all be proud of. Remember, you don’t actually have to draw the whole thing, you can put together different pieces of clipart. We need something simple without too much detail so it can be shrunk down to fit on the center of a ribbon, or even small enough to be placed on our membership cards. It can still be a horse jumping across Illinois as long as the horse is jumping in better form than the previous logo. It could be any combination of some of the various icons of the hunter/jumper discipline such as bit, spur, stirrups, helmet, crop/whip, fox and hound, or ribbon. One member may submit as many entries as they like. Bring all of your entries to the general meeting and displayed there until after the vote (artists’ names should not be visible). The winner’s name and new logo will be printed in the spring newsletter and on the web site, and the winner will be given credit in the rule book from this year forward.

2006 Point Standings

Enclosed with this newsletter are the final point standings for MIHJA’s 2006 show season. Please take a few minutes to look through and check them for accuracy. The computer program does a nice job, and the math is certainly accurate, however a few new unexpected issues have cropped up. Since the last mailing, the following corrections have been made: 1) in Short and Long Stirrup classes, the points from walk/trot classes are not counted when the walk/trot/canter classes are held, as per MIHJA rules, and 2) Warm-up points from certain shows were appearing as Command Class points, and have since been removed manually. If you see that you have points from a division in which you never rode, or don’t have points from a division in which you placed this year, please notify us as soon as possible as any changes may make or break ties.
